Year 3 Maths, Term 4 — take Week 1 now
Ten weeks built on one misconception. Week 1's four sheets are below — nothing asked, no account, no card. The other nine weeks are free too; those need a free account, which opens in January with the teacher subscriptions.

What this block is built on
The whole term hangs on one question: "how many hundreds in 1 400?" A child who says 4 is reading the hundreds digit; a child who says 14 knows a thousand is ten hundreds. Week 1 opens that up, and every week afterwards comes back to it in the same words — which is why the weeks are titled with the misconception rather than the topic.
Use them in any order you like. The order below is the one we would teach, and nothing on the sheets themselves claims a week number, so they will not argue with your programme. Every lesson also sits under MAO-WM-01 (Working Mathematically), so that one is not repeated on each row.
The ten weeks
Four sheets a week: a worksheet, a homework sheet, a five-question quick-check, and the answer key. The answer key is yours, not theirs — it carries the marking notes and what each wrong answer tells you. All ten weeks are listed because the chain is the point: Week 1 names the misconception and every week after it comes back to the same one.

Five answers, and you know who to pull aside
Every quick-check question carries an error code, and the answer key spells out what each wrong answer means. The codes separate three different jobs:
- ME — they never knew the method. Teach it. Time and materials fix this one.
- AR — they knew it and slipped. Don't reteach; slow them down instead.
- MU — sound thinking, an earlier year's method. Move the method on, not the idea.
The number worth watching is not the total out of five. It is the ME : AR split — a child with five ME errors and a child with five AR errors need opposite things from you on Monday, and a column of totals hides which is which.
Yours to photocopy for your class
You may print, photocopy and scan these for the children in your own class, hand them to those children and their parents, put them on the board, and keep using them all year.
Please don't pass the files to other teachers — including in your own school — put them on a shared drive or intranet, or upload them anywhere else. Send them this page instead: the sample costs them nothing and the rest costs them nothing but an account, which is the point of it being free.
