What Year 7 NAPLAN tests
NAPLAN is not a separate syllabus. It measures the literacy and numeracy the Australian Curriculum already expects at the first year of high school.
Reading
Comprehension of supplied texts — locating information, interpreting it, and reasoning about what the writer is doing. Texts get longer and more argumentative than in primary.
Writing
One prompt, narrative or persuasive, marked on structure, vocabulary, punctuation and spelling. Year 7 sits this online.
Conventions of language
Spelling, grammar and punctuation. This test uses locked sections rather than adapting question by question.
Numeracy
Number, algebra, measurement, space, statistics and probability. The Years 7 and 9 numeracy tests also use locked sections, not the fully tailored design used lower down.
What we can help with at Year 7 — and what we can’t
You can now sit a full Year 7 NAPLAN paper here, in exam mode — Reading 48 questions in 65 minutes, Conventions of language 52 questions in 45 minutes, Numeracy 48 questions in 65 minutes. Every structure and timing comes from ACARA's own assessment framework, and the questions are drawn fresh from our banks each time, so a student practises pacing rather than memorising one test.
The real test is tailored, choosing each student's next questions from how they answered the last; ours is a fixed-form paper at the same length and timing, which is what a practice paper is. The writing test is listed but not simulated — it is one open response marked by a person, and the Writing Coach is the tool for that.
Our graded self-study practice tests reach Year 10 in maths and in English. The Year 7 paper is built from banks written for exam mode, not from a full Year 7 course, and we would rather say so than let this page imply more than is behind it.
Year 7 is also taught through our tutoring centre, which runs Years 7 to 10 in Maths and English. It starts with a free diagnostic and a written report, and you get the report whether or not you enrol.
Common questions
When do Year 7 students sit NAPLAN?
The 2027 NAPLAN window runs 10–22 March 2027. Schools choose their own days inside it.
What does Year 7 NAPLAN test?
Four domains: reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation), and numeracy. All four are drawn from the Australian Curriculum.
Is the Year 7 test adaptive?
Mostly. NAPLAN online is tailored — questions get easier or harder depending on how a student answers. Two tests are the exception and use locked sections instead: conventions of language, and the Years 7 and 9 numeracy tests.
Do you have Year 7 practice tests?
Yes. A full Year 7 NAPLAN paper is available in exam mode, at the real length and section timing — reading, conventions of language and numeracy. The writing test is listed but not simulated. Our graded self-study practice tests cover Years 2 to 10 in both maths and English, and Year 7 is also taught through our tutoring centre, which runs Years 7 to 10 in Maths and English.
Is this the official NAPLAN test?
No. AceTheirTest is an independent practice platform, not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to ACARA or NAPLAN.
